New Champions Crowned
Liverpool 0 Tottenham Hotspur 2 (Van der Vaart 9, Modric 56pen)
Spurs enjoyed their extra time on the ball and put it to good use in the early stages, dominating possession. Van der Vaart fired well wide early on but the next time he did not disappoint with his ninth-minute shooting opportunity.
Van der Vaart lasted just five minutes into the second half before limping off to be replaced by Jermain Defoe. Anger at Webb's officiating reached a peak in the 55th minute when he penalised John Flanagan for a foul on Pienaar when the offence appeared to be both outside the penalty area and in favour of the home side.

Neil Lennon attack, a dark dark day for football
Luckily he slipped and didn't get much power in his punch but the fact he got that far amazes me.
Neil Lennon has had to endure torrents of abuse from fans and has done so all his career but this season he has had to deal with bullets sent in the post, parcel bombs aimed to kill and is under 24 hours security.
Why is he having to deal with this? Is it religion? Or is it purely because he is Celtics manager? Maybe even both. Either way it doesn't excuse thugs who want to cause the Irishman harm.
How this fan got on the pitch is one thing but how he got the Lennon I just don't know. As soon as he was on the floor he was pounced on by stewards and police before being escorted out of the stadium but by that time anything could've happened.
Will Lennon continue to manage Celtic. Well, he's a wealthy man who doesn't need to work so he could walk away and who would blame him but personally I think he will continue to manager the hoops.
This is the most serious incident of the season but since January there seems to be a sudden increase in pitch invasions. In January Stevenage defender Scott Laird was floored after their giant killing victory over Newcastle United. Originally it was thought a Newcastle supporter had thrown the punch but it was actually a Stevenage supporter who didn't particularly agree with some of Lairds off-field tactics.
A week later Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper was attacked by a Sunderland supporter during the Tyne-Wear derby. Asamoah Gyan had equalized for Sunderland in the fourth minute of injury time and a supporter jumped on the pitch and pushed the keeper over.
In the lower leagues, two weeks ago, the Bury goalkeeper Cameron Belford was attacked by a Chesterfield fan after Bury won 3-2 taking the League Two title away from the Spireites so its not just the Scottish and English Premier Leagues, it seems to be contagious.
I just hope this will be the last act of this kind, not only against Neil Lennon but footballers in general as the mindless minority could spoil it for the majority of fans who pay there money and all they want to see is 11v11 and an entertaining football match. I don't want to see the return of fencing in stadiums but how many more incidents will it take before the FA or SFA take drastic action.
Do you think Neil Lennon should resign as Celtic manager at the end of the season? Let us know, email admin@worldwidefootball.co.uk or twitter @jamiemason76

England U17s lose European crown
Semi-final: Holland 1 England 0
Athletic midfielder Ebecilio struck on 26 minutes as the Netherlands stretched their run of clean sheets to six games. Having lost in the 2005 and 2009 showpieces, the Oranje will meet the winners of this afternoon's Denmark against Germany semi-final here in Novi Sad on Sunday morning.
Group B winners the Netherlands restored all seven rested players from their 0-0 draw with the Czech Republic on Monday while a knee injury ruled out England midfielder Nick Powell; captain Nathaniel Chalobah was pushed forward from defence, Adam Jackson slotting in at centre-back. It was on their left that England were troubled early on, Memphis Depay putting in a cross headed over by Anass Achahbar, who then just failed to get a foot to Daan Disveld's centre.
England soon tightened up on that flank but while they were 3-0 up by the midway point of the first half against hosts Serbia on Monday, they had not had a clear chance by that time today. They fell behind to a player from Arsenal FC, Ebecilio surging through the holders' defence to beat Jordan Pickford. Breaching the Netherlands rearguard was now a necessity for England and Jake Caskey, whose father Darren scored the goal to win the 1993 European U18 title, came close from distance.
Ebecilio had the first chance of the second half, a strong low shot straight at Pickford, but England were having no joy and manager John Peacock sent on forward Adam Morgan and winger Nathan Redmond, pushing Chalobah back into defence. Redmond, a lively presence on the right, looped an effort just over the bar on 55 minutes.
They were even closer a couple of minutes later, Morgan's free-kick curling into the side netting beyond the reach of group stage top scorer Hallam Hope. At the other end, Ebecilio was not far off from substitute Danzell Gravenburch's cut-back. Pickford also had to be alert to prevent a Samuel Magri own goal, and indeed Netherlands keeper Boy de Jong was seldom troubled in the closing stages.
At the death a worthily exhausted Ebecilio rolled a shot narrowly past the post but victory was sealed. England can now look forward to their second FIFA U-17 World Cup appearance in Mexico from 18 June.

Manchester achieve league and cup double
United win 19th title while City bag the FA Cup
Earlier in the day Manchester United were at Ewood Park against struggling Blackburn Rovers. United needed a point to secure a record breaking 19th Premier League title. Blackburn needed something out of the game if they wanted to secure Premier League football and escape the relegation fight.
The game started badly for Tomasz Kuszczak and in the 20th minute gifted Blackburn the lead. A Brett Emerton cross wasn't gathered cleanly by the duputising goalkeeper and the ball found Martin Olsson who fired the ball across the goal for Emerton to put it in the back of the net.
For ten minutes after the goal United looked shaky as Blackburn threatened to double their lead but as half time arrived the home side were only one goal to the good and as United only needed a point, destiny was still in their hands.
In the second half Blackburn again had a chance to double their lead and were unlucky not to do so in the 65th minute. Again Emerton caused problems and his cross found Olsson and his header hit the post. After that Manchester United found their game and started to cause problems then in the 73rd minute Hernandez ran towards goal and although he miscontrolled the ball Blackburn keeper Paul Robinson brought the Mexican down and the referee Phil Dowd pointed to the spot.
Wayne Rooney, who almost left United in January, put the ball on the spot and sent Robinson the wrong way.
It seemed after that both sides were happy with a point and when the ref called time it was party time for the Red Devils.
With United claiming the Premier League title Manchester City had their chance to win their first title for 35 years with a win against Stoke City and they dominated from the first minute. Mario Balotelli, so often criticised was inspirational in all he did and David Silva was finding some form and with returning captain Carlos Tevez pulling the strings it looked like City would win at a canter but Stoke were battling and wasn't giving up but they just couldn't find a way past the City defence, in fact in the 34th minute City had a chance to take the lead. Mario Balotelli's shot was blocked by Sorenson in goal and the ball found the little Spaniard and all he could do was hit the ball over from 8 yards.
At half time it remained 0-0 and Stoke was still in the game but City were still dominating and even though the Stoke supporters tried to rally their troops they couldn't get into the game and in the 74th minute the goal City had deserved arrived on 74 minutes. Silva released Balotelli in the area and when his shot was deflected it fell invitingly into the path of Toure who gave Sorensen no chance with a thunderous finish.
In a typical Italian way Roberto Mancini got his players to protect the lead and although Stoke out the pressure on at the end City were never in trouble and when the referee blew the whistle it ended a fantastic week for Manchester City. They guarantee Champions League football on Tuesday and today claimed the FA Cup. The only guarantee after this is this will not the the last bit of silverware the Citizens will win.

Holders through to U17 semi finals
With one group game left for each country everyone still had something to fight for. The top two teams qualified not only for the semi finals of the competition but also qualified for the Under 17 World Cup in Mexico. Whoever finished third in each group would also win a place in the World Cup, starting June 18.
Group A
Top spot was already decided. After beating both Serbia and England Denmark were guaranteed to finish top of the group but this didn't stop them from wanting to finish the group off in style. Despite making numerous changes from the side that beat champions England a strike from Lyngby midfielder Christian Norgaard ensured the Danes went into the knockout stage with a 100% record. France knew victory would ensure they progressed as group runners up but they just couldn't get past a well drilled Danish defence and at the final whistle mini Les Bleus were hoping Serbia has managed to beat England.
England knew victory was a must if they wanted to keep hold of the title they won last year for a little longer and totally blitzed Serbia who had only managed one point from their first two matches. After 20 minutes England were already 3-0 up due to goals from Everton's Hope Hallam, who scored twice, and Liverpools Brad Smith who opened the scoring after four minutes, at the end of the match the players knew they had made it. Due to kicking off later than the teams in Group B England knew they were to face Holland in the semi finals.
Group B
Like Denmark, Holland were already guaranteed top spot of the group and also decided to ring the changes in their last match against Czech Republic. With the other three teams hoping to take second place the Czechs knew they had a chance to progress, the Dutch however weren't going to let them have their own way. Despite all the chances neither side managed to get that elusive opener so in the end they had to settle for a 0-0 draw. This result meant the winner of Romania v Germany would progress as group runner up. The Germans haven't really hit the ground running this tournament while the Romanians have been rank outsiders but both gave their all for victory and it could've gone either way but it was Germany who got the three points. Bayer Leverkusens Samed Yesil got his second goal of the tournament, and this strike mean't victory and second spot was assured.
So now we know the semi finalists. Group A winners Denmark will take on Germany while Group B winners Holland have a tough match against holders England. Both matches take place on Thursday at the Stadion Karadorde, Novi Sad with the final being played at the same venue on Sunday.
We aim to bring you all the news of the semi finals just after they happen so don't forget to put us in your favourites and check everyday as we try and keep you up to date on all things football.

Denmark defeat holders England to reach last four
Denmark 2 (Fischer 13, Zohore 21) England 0
The holders, unbeaten in a competitive game under coach John Peacock since their last group match of the 2009 finals, now need to beat Serbia on Monday to stand a chance of extending their title defence. Their attempts to retain the trophy were dealt a major blow by an impressive Denmark outfit, who won courtesy of first-half goals from Viktor Fischer and Kenneth Zohore.
Thomas Frank's team were brimming with confidence after their opening win against Serbia. Carrying on from where he left off on Tuesday, when he scored a late winner, Fischer was first to apply the finishing touch. Given all the time and space he needed, the striker let loose from 25 yards with a shot which whistled into the top corner.
Denmark's second came via Zohore, a real route one effort and his shotflew past Jordan Pickford. That setback briefly sparked England into life but still they were second best, Hope's tame header and wayward shot the only fruits of their labour.
Fresh from Peacock's half-time advice, England at last began to stretch their opponents down the flanks that proved so profitable against France. Still, though, chances were at a premium until midway through the half, Max Clayton smashing the bar with a splendid volley before turning narrowly wide from close range 30 seconds later.
Dominant in possession until the final whistle, Peacock's charges could simply find no way through a dogged Danish defence.
In todays other game France drew their second match 1-1 against hosts Serbia so it is between those two and England to decide the second semi fianlist from the group then they play on Monday.
Group B matches kick off at 4pm (BST)

England U17s draw in Euro 2011 opener
France equalise twice to claim a point
Today saw the beginning of the 2011 U17 European Championships in Serbia and England played France in their opening match.
Two goals from Sébastien Haller ensured France secured a 2-2 draw against England in their opening game of the Championships.
Twice England were in front, through Hallam Hope and Nicholas Powell, but twice Haller clawed Patrick Gonfalone's side back into the match.
John Peacock's side found their feet quickly in the game and duly took the lead when Hope poked in Alex Henshall's cross-shot.
England had little time to rest on their lead, though, France swiftly displaying the technique to match their physique only for Haller to volley over at the end of a fine move. The Auxerre striker soon made amends, crisply meeting a cross from the left to draw his side level on 15 minutes.
France, failed to build on their goal. Indeed, Powell, having already chanced his arm from range pounced on a defensive mix-up to clip delightfully over stranded goalkeeper Quentin Beunardeau and restore England's advantage.
Adfter both sides displayed some attractive attacking football it was a more direct route which ensured the spoils were shared, Haller leaping above Pickford to head in via the despairing lunge of Adam Jackson. With the clock already past 80 minutes, Yaisien so nearly provided a dramatic conclusion but his curling free-kick struck the bar.
Next up for England will be Denmark on Friday, should England beat Denmark then they will have qualified for the U17 World Cup Finals.
In the other group match today Denmark beat hosts Serbia in an entertaining match winning 3-2

Norwich City promoted to the Premier League
1-0 victory means back to back promotions for Lamberts boys
Norwich would've already been aware Cardiff had lost so a win against Portsmouth and they were back in the Premier League. The game started off with a possible red card for the home side when Aaron Mokoena's elbow found Grant Holt's face but the referee left his cards in his pocket but in the 50th Norwich scored with a Simeon Jackson header to send the 3500 travelling Canaries into delirium.
Paul Lambert has done an amazing job since taking over in the 2009/10 season, in fact Norwich City's first match in League One that season was a 7-1 maulling by Lamberts Colchester United. Lambert from Colchester to take over from Bryan Gunn and Norwich havent looked back since claiming back to back promotions so now we now who the two sides are who are automatically promoted. Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers (until the courtroom battle begins)
As for Cardiff, well if they want to become the first side from Wales to play in the Premier League they look like playing Nottingham Forest in the Play-Offs, Dave Jones will be hoping the results against Middlesbrough hasn't affected the confidence to much

Twitter abuse forces second account closure
Wanderers striker Kevin Davies closes account after Rovers abuse
Davies, 34 didn't help himself when tweeting: "he was looking forward to 'seeing Blackburn's attractive football he's been hearing Kean talk about'.
This was just before Blackburn went on to win 1-0 and almost guarantee Premier League football for another season.
After the game angry Rovers fans decided to vent their anger towards Davies and his wife Emma who has also closed her account.
In his last tweet Davies said: "Reason for leaving is partly due to abuse that nobody needs really."
Twitter has been in the papers for all the wrong reason lately, two weeks ago Manchester Uniteds Darron Gibson opened his twitter account only to close it two hours later for getting to much abuse.
Kevin Davies is a rarity on twitter, a footballer that responds to the public, so many footballers ignore normal tweets but are happy to joke and chat to other celebrities so its a shame that the minority have spoiled it for the majority.
I also think it is a slight over exaggeration from the players, although I don't know what the abusive tweets consisted of but Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage get abusive tweets all the time, all he does is retweet them and get on with his life, maybe this is the example other players should live up to, but like I say, I don't know what Davies and Gibson took in terms of abuse.
Twitter can be fun where the public can laugh and joke with friends as well as get ignored by the rich and famous, I enjoy twitter as much as the next man but why abuse people on there, these people enjoy doing it when they can hide behind their computer screen, would these people have the balls to do it in public?

Free transfer market see's bargains galore
As the season comes to an end we see those bargains just waiting to be picked up
Yes their respective boards will be able to give Paul Lambert of Dave Jones some cash but they will be relying on the Free Transfer market.
Our friends at http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk compiled a list of who is free come June 1st and there is a lot of talent out there.
Norwich or Cardiff could sign Michael Owen up front, the Canaries could fly in and take Robert Green back to the club where he made his name and theres also the likes of Brad Friedel, Kevin Phillips and Ricardo Fuller, all of which have expiring contracts.
Now as its only May 1st these players could decide to extend their stay at their relative clubs but it just goes to show you don't have to go splashing the cash to ensure Premier League survival, there's a whole host of bargains just waiting for the right club to come along and make them an offer, and if theres nothing there to take your fancy there always Jeremie Aliadiere!!!
