Argentina v Germany

This is said to be the tie of the round.  Take the phone off the hook, take the batteries out of the doorbell and sit down for the clash of the round.  These two have scores to settle.  1986 a Diego Maradona inspired Argentina beat the then West Germany 3-2 to take the trophy back to Buenos Aires.  Four years later it was Germanys turn in probably the most dull final of all time.  Two Argentine players sent off, boring match, 1 goal, a late penalty.  I can remember it, it was awful but this match will be completely different.  I thought Schweinsteiger was going to be the player of the tournament but Mesut Ozil has been the man to suprise everyone, he has been the architect of many of Germanys goals, not necessarily scoring them but making them but then Argentina have the little maestro, Lionel Messi in their ranks and he could well decide who goes through to the Semi-Finals.  Germany are a young team and are expected to be front runners for the European Championships in 2012 rather than this tournament and I think this will be the round where Germany graciously bow out.

Head To Head: Argentina 8 wins, 5 Draws, Germany 5 wins
Last Meeting: 3/3/2010 - Munich - Germany 0 Argentina 1
Odds: Argentina 11/8, Draw 9/4, Germany 12/5
Verdict: 1-0
