Tre Fiori v Rudar Pljevlja

Yesterday (June 30th) may have been a rest day at the World Cup but elsewhere in Europe the first official match of the 2010/11 season took place.  No really it did!!!

The first qualifying round of this season's Champions League kicked off with a match between Societa Polisportiva Tre Fiori or Tre Fiori to their friends versus FK Rudar Pljevlja.  Now this may have skipped you by but not here at Worldwide Football.  We say we have it covered and covered it is.

We thought it was only right to give this fixture some air time but what do we know about the clubs that took part.  Here are all the facts about the sides, and of course the result.

Tre Fiori are the current champions of the San Marino League, or Campionato Sammarinese di Calcio, they are the most successful club in San Marino football with 6 Championship titles and this is their second season in Champion League football.  Last season they were knocked out on penalties by Andorran outfit UE Sant Julia after drawing 2-2 on aggregate over the two legs.
They don't actually have a home ground, the clubs in San Marino use a host of grounds on a random basis but the biggest capacity is at the Stadio Di Fiorentino which has a capacity of only 700 surely this will be the smallest ground to host a match in this seasons tournament.
They are managed by Floriano Sperindio and their main rivals are those playing for FC Fioretino where crowds have been known to get as high as 600.

Honours:
League Winners: 1988, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2009, 2010
Coppa Titano Winners: 1966, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1985, 2010
Trofeo Federale Winners: 1991, 1993

Rudar Pljevlja are the current champions of Montenegro where they play in the Montenegrin First League (easier to remember than the San Marino one!!).  Last season they won the title for the first time since 1966 when it was the Yugoslav First League.  Since the new league started in 2006 no team has won the title more than once.  This is their first season in European Football and all of their squad is made up of people from Montenegro.
Their ground, the Stadion Gradski Pljevlja which has a capacity of 11,000 and are managed by Nebojša Vignjević.
