Simon Kjaer in Wolfsburg switch

Worldwide Football can confirm the Dutch master, Steve McLaren has pipped a number of Premier League sides to the signing of highly rated defender Simon Kjaer.

Tottenham and Manchester United were interested in the 21 year old but he was very unimpressive during the World Cup where he made 2 appearances for his country as they were dumped out of the tournament after the Group stages.

With Manchester United possibly losing Nemanja Vidic and with Rio Ferdinand struggling with injuries the young defender was seen as the ideal replacement but instead he will be playing in the Bundesliga next season.

Kjaer made 62 appearances for Italian side Palermo since joining them in for €4m from Danish club Midtjylland in 2008 and the fee involved in this move is quoted as being around the £11m mark.

The Daily Mail interviewed Kjaer and he said 'The move is a chance for me to play at a top club,' said Kjaer. 'I think this is the right step for me now.  We have a strong team who can challenge in the Bundesliga and I hope to secure a regular place.'

Simon Kjaer's career:

2007-2008 - Midtjylland - 19 apps (0 goals)
2008-2010 - Palermo - 62 apps (5 goals)
2009 - Denmark - 11 apps
