WorldwideFootball can reveal Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Ireland has joined Newcastle United on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.
The 24 year old only joined Villa from Manchester City in the summer as a make weight in the James Milner deal but he hasn't managed to feature much for Villa and rumour had it Celtic were going to make an approach and take him to Celtic Park on loan but Alan Pardew has decided to make a bid which has been accepted by Randy Lerner and Gerard Houllier.
In December Villa manager Houllier stated Ireland was free to leave if the right bid come along and during Ireland's short stint at Villa his professionalism has been questioned by the manager so its no surprise to see Ireland depart for pastures new.
Stephen Irelands career:
2005-2010 - Manchester City - 138 apps (16 goals)
2010 - Aston Villa - 10 apps
